1960s

Dave Sharrett (B.A., ’78) and his train-loving grandson, Cole.

Jim Spaulding (B.S., ’63) resided in Rocky Ford, Colorado, from 1963-2006 ranching, farming, and running several businesses. Jim moved to Millsap, Texas, in 2006 where he has a cow ranch and horse breeding training facility. After surviving a massive stroke in 2018, Jim is now retired and lives on the ranch in Texas.

1970s

Dave Sharrett (B.A., ’78) recently had the pleasure of hosting his 5 year old grandson, Cole, who came to visit his grandparents in Forest, Virginia; traveling all the way from Long Island, New York. During Cole’s visit, they walked around The Peaks of Otter Lake and Thunder Ridge Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Cole and Dave, whom Cole calls “Chief,” spent each morning on the golf course looking for golf balls. As huge train fans, Cole and Chief spent quality time running MTH trains on Chief’s O gauge layout in the basement. The pair even got to see the Virginia Transportation Museum, catching a glimpse of a real Norfolk and Western 611 J, “Spirit of Roanoke” steam locomotive.

Jay Deanda (B.S., ’18)

Emily Swisher (B.S., ’16) recently published her first book, STABLE, chronicling her experiences working as a psychotherapist incorporating equines into therapy. STABLE received accolades from Dr. Temple Grandin; “Emily Swisher’s beautiful prose illustrates how an emotional connection with horses helped both her and her clients gain insight into their own emotions.”

Jay Deanda (B.S., ’18) is celebrating one year with Associates in Family Medicine, Timberline (Fort Collins) as a Family Practice Provider. She thanks the great education and support she received as an undergrad at Colorado State.
