Class Notes – November 2023

1960s

Lynda Cooper (B.S., ’66) taught high school Home Economics in Colorado Springs and Cortez, Colorado, and worked for the Cooperative Extension Service in Montezuma County. Following her husband, Tom, who was in the U.S. Air Force, to Klamath Falls, Oregon and Grand Forks, North Dakota. Lynda obtained a Master’s Degree in Child Development and Doctorate in Home Economics Education at the University of Illinois where she taught. She then became the Associate Director of the Cooperative Extension Service in Oklahoma for Family & Consumer Education and 4-H Youth Development. She served the State of Illinois and the nation as President of, first the state association, then the National Association of Family & Consumer Science Education. Lynda passed away on January 21, 2023 from cancer.

1970s

Barb Moritzky (B.A., ’75) retired after two decades as the Development and Marketing Director of Youth and Community Orchestras in the Denver area where he served for five decades working on behalf of people with disabilities stateside and overseas. From 1984-1986, she served in the U. S. Peace Corps Tunisia and remained in Tunisia as the Associate Peace Corps Director and Training Director until fall of 1988. Once stateside, she was appointed as the Rocky Mountain Regional Recruitment Director for Peace Corps for five years. She and her husband Rand celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island. They have two children. She appeared in several theatre performances in the Denver area over two decades. She is a batik artist and has sung in choirs.

Rand Moritzky (B.S., ’75) retired from UNICO Group as Insurance Program Director. He spent five decades in the insurance industry as an adjuster, underwriter, VP of Marketing, and agent with National Farmers Union. Rand also served in U.S. Peace Corps Tunisia 1984-1986 and other positions until 1988. He and his wife Barb celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year on San Juan Island. They have two children. Rand appeared in theatre performances in the Denver Metro area for two decades. He served on several boards and with Eaton Senior Center for low-income seniors in Colorado for 15 years and Fox Hollow Men’s Club for the past eight years. As an avid golfer, Rand is always seeking new courses to play.

Gary McCormick (B.A., ’77) spoke proudly about being a Ram after he was presented with the PRSA’s Golden Anvil Award on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2023.

1980s

Daniel Genova (B.F.A., ’80) will be having a one-person exhibition of his drawings at the SEO gallery in South Korea in December 2023.

1990s

Lisa Peterson (Jarbeau) recently had a chance to connect with some fellow alumni at the NAADAC Annual Conference held at the Gaylord Resort in Aurora. Lisa works in addiction spaces across the country but connected though our CSU roots.

2000s

Shannon Youngman (B.S., ’01) was awarded the 2023 Colorado Diabetes Educator of the Year Award by the Colorado Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialist for contributions in cardiometabolic care for individuals with diabetes, heart disease, and lipid disorders through the work done at the University of Colorado Cardiometabolic and Advanced Lipid Disorder Clinic.
