1950s

Paul (B.S., ’55; D.V.M, ’59) and Jane Hildebrandt (B.S., ’54)

Paul (B.S., ’55; D.V.M, ’59) and Jane Hildebrandt (B.S., ’54) celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Dec. 12, 2023. They married in 1953 in the Presbyterian Church on College Ave. and the reception was in the Kappa Delta house. Paul spent 20 years in the Army Veterinary Corps and retired as a full colonel. He and Jane raised four children and lived primarily in Maryland. They currently happily reside in a glorious retirement community in Frederick, Maryland.

1960s

Deborah Pomeroy (B.S., ’65) began her career in research before shifting into science education. She taught high school for 19 years in Fairbanks, Arkansas, and received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching in 1984. Deborah completed her doctoral studies at the Harvard Graduate School for Education to instruct on science teacher education. She consulted on curriculums, contributed to several NSF grants, and helped lead a massive integration of STEM curriculum in Egypt. Deborah and her colleague, F. Joseph Merlino, recently wrote New Era – New Urgency: The Case for Repurposing Education, which describes their work in Egypt and calls for repurposing education in the U.S. It will be released in late March 2024 and will be available on Amazon.

John (B.S., ’68) and Carolyn Schoenbauer (B.S. ’69) reminisce fondly on their time at Colorado State University, noting that it is a great university. They are very appreciative of the opportunities they were offered while on campus and throughout their careers following their departure from CSU. In June 2023, John celebrated 50 years as a licensed life and health insurance agent. He owned his own agency in New Hampshire, which he sold in 2011. He is now semi-retired in Florida where he works in the senior market helping new clients each year. He has had an incredibly rewarding and satisfying career helping and protecting clients, many of whom have become his good friends.

1970s

Jean Yeager (B.A., ’70, ’71), an award-winning Vermont author and playwright, released a 10-minute anti-war play, Iraq War Prayer: Photo-Op. He constructed the play as part of the Rouge Theatre Festival produced by UR Here Theater Company in Fresno, California, in March 2024. The festival focuses on producing thought and talk-provoking theater AKA drama + discussion= change! The play is based on an actual protest event conducted during the launch of Operation Desert Storm in the Iraq War during Presidents Day weekend in 1991.

Mary Fechner (B.S., ’76) would like to share her late husband’s book: Rocking Alaska: Stories from a Field Geologist by Steven Fechner (M.S., ’79). Published in 2019, the book is a depiction of Steven’s journey to becoming a geologist, including his experiences in Alaska and the aspects of working in the “Last Frontier.” The book is filled with personal stories and connects with those hoping to one day also become a field geologist. Rocking Alaska: Stories from a Field Geologist is available on Amazon.

Judy (Broadhurst) Carrigan (B.S., ’79) retired from Pediatric Occupational Therapy in Helena, Montana. Judy practiced in Denver at Porter Hospital before moving to Montana in 1992. She practiced 20 years at St. Peter’s in Helena in acute care and at TCU where she built a pediatric outpatient OT program. Judy worked in a special education cooperative providing services to East Helena schools and to surrounding rural schools. After, Judy opened her own private practice in Helena prior to her retirement. While working as an Occupational Therapist, Judy and her daughters opened a studio where they taught Irish dance to children and adults in Helena, Butte, Bozeman, and Missoula. They brought back traditional Irish dance to historically very Irish communities.
