CSU’s Oval is one of the most treasured features on the historic campus. With 99 majestic American elms mixed in with lush grass, it is the most photographed spot on campus and the site of weddings, picnics, graduation ceremonies and festivals.
Maintaining the Oval is a significant and expensive undertaking. The elm trees – some of the dating to the 1880s and soaring more than 90 feet into the Colorado sky – need to be pruned regularly, and each pruning costs more than $125,000.
Going Beyond a Billion
You can do your part to maintain this cherished icon by supporting the Oval Preservation Fund Endowment — part of CSU’s Beyond a Billion initiative. CSU hopes to add $150,000 to the fund to ensure the beauty of the Oval for years to come.

The Oval Preservation fund is just one of several initiatives being promoted through Beyond a Billion, CSU’s push to extend the impact of the State Your Purpose Campaign after the $1 billion goal was reached in September. The goal is to add to the $1 billion total while celebrating CSU’s 150th birthday in 2020 when the campaign closes.

$150,000 IN GIFTS TO THE CSU PARENTS FUND – Support growing the Rams family throughout the world by engaging parents and families to create a strong CSU community and foster student success.
15 NEW ENDOWED FACULTY POSITIONS – Enhance CSU’s ability to attract the brightest research, teaching and academic minds to create world-class learning environments. Endowed positions shape understanding in their fields and demonstrate significant contribution to exceptional teaching, research and leadership.
INCREASE CSU’S ENDOWED ASSETS BY $150 MILLION – Help boost CSU’s endowment assets pool to ensure the long-term financial health and stability of the university.
