1960s
Bill Liley (B.S., ’66; M.S., ’79) was honored with a CSU 50-Year Milestone award during the 2021 Celebrate!Colorado State awards program. Liley has had a long and influential career in Colorado State University Human Resources, starting as a student employee and rising into leadership. Among other important projects, he helped draft state legislation pertaining to university employee retirement benefits.
1980s
Beth Lechleitner (B.A., ’81; M.A., ’85) has received the Fledge Poetry Chapbook Prize for her collection titled Catchments which has been published by Middle Creek Publishing & Audio (under E.A. Lechleitner). The book is available from the publisher and through Amazon.
Chandra Venkatachalam (M.S., ’83; Ph.D., ’87) is associate dean for international programs in CSU’s Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. He accepted the Office of International Programs Distinguished Service Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards. The award recognizes efforts to advance international learning opportunities and academic exchange.
1990s
Beverly Earley (M.B.A., ’90) is public health and risk manager in the Immunizations and Allergy unit of CSU’s Health Network. She received a Distinguished Administrative Professional Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards for consistent meritorious and outstanding achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and outreach.
Ann Randall (M.S., ’96) is an undergraduate program coordinator, academic success coordinator, and assistant professor in CSU’s Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology. She received the Jack E. Cermak Outstanding Advisor Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards for extraordinary work as a student adviser.
Erik Wilmsen (B.A., ’97) is information technology coordinator for CSU’s Division of Enrollment and Access. He accepted the Enrollment and Access Distinguished Service Award during the 2021 Celebrate!Colorado State awards for work with important impact for the division and CSU students.
Jan Lee Cordova (B.A., ’98) is a fiscal officer for the CSU College of Business. She accepted a Classified Personnel Council Outstanding Achievement Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards for outstanding achievement as a CSU state classified employee.
2000s
Dallas Davis (B.S., ’01) was recently named director of diversity, equity, inclusion, and recruiting for the Colorado Rockies. He has worked for the baseball club for 16 years, much of that time developing educational and community programming. As part of the Colorado Rockies Make and Impact program, Davis has visited hundreds of schools; he also has worked with players and their families on charitable activities and with the club’s youth baseball camps and clinics. While at CSU, Davis played with the Rams football team as a wide receiver and return specialist. He lives with his family in the Denver area.
Michael Brake (B.S., ’02) is associate director for assessment and technology with the CSU Collaborative for Student Achievement. She received a Distinguished Administrative Professional Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards for consistent meritorious and outstanding achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and outreach.
Kristy Pabilonia (D.V.M., ’02; Ph.D., ’12) is an associate professor and director of clinical diagnostics for the CSU Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Pathology. She received the Oliver P. Pennock Distinguished Service Award at the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards. The award recognizes consistent meritorious and outstanding achievement on the part of academic faculty and staff.
Jennifer Aberle (M.S., ’03; Ph.D., ’07) has served as interim associate dean for undergraduate affairs in CSU’s Department of Human Development and Family Studies. She accepted the Kevin Ann Oltjenbruns Award for Outstanding Leadership during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards. The award honors university faculty and staff for going above and beyond in their leadership and student mentoring and advising.
Dr. Charles “C.J.” Riley (M.S., ’03; Ph.D., ’09), professor of Civil Engineering at Oregon Tech, received the 2021 Outstanding Teaching Award from the Pacific Northwest Section of the American Society for Engineering Education.
Danielle Frey (B.S., ’04; D.V.M., ’08) is director of international student experiences for students in the CSU Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Program. She earned the Office of International Programs Distinguished Service Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards. The award recognizes work to enhance international student learning and academic exchange.
Katie Risheill (B.A., ’06; M.M.P., ’11) is associate registrar for academic services in the CSU Office of the Registrar. She received a Distinguished Administrative Professional Award during the 2021 Celebrate!Colorado State awards for consistent meritorious and outstanding achievement in the areas of teaching, research, and outreach.
Kathy Krell (B.A., ’07) is office manager in the CSU Lory Student Center Director’s Office. She accepted a Classified Personnel Council Outstanding Achievement Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards for outstanding achievement as a CSU state classified employee.
Melissa Burt (M.S., ’08; Ph.D., ’16) is assistant dean for diversity and inclusion in CSU’s Walter Scott, Jr. College of Engineering. She accepted the President’s Council on Culture Award during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards for her efforts to advance equity and improve campus culture. Burt is a research scientist who studies the Arctic climate in the Department of Atmospheric Science. In early 2021, she became a prominent spokeswoman for Science Moms, a nationwide campaign that seeks to inform moms everywhere about the threats of climate change – and to empower them to join a collective call for action.
Sherry Hunt (Ph.D., ’08) is one of 29 finalists for this year’s Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medals (the Sammies), otherwise known as the “Oscars” of government service. The Sammies recognize the unsung heroes in our federal government who have made phenomenal contributions to the health, safety and prosperity of our country.
2010s
Jennifer Bousselot (Ph.D., ’10) is an assistant professor in CSU’s Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture. She was named a Provost Teaching Scholar during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards. The award is presented to an early career professor for notable work to enhance student learning and success.
Garret Miyake (Ph.D., ’11) is an associate professor in CSU’s Department of Chemistry. He was named a Provost Research Scholar during the 2021 Celebrate! Colorado State awards. The award recognizes an early career professor for notable scholarly achievement in research and innovation.
Gabriel Armstrong (B.S., ’12) is putting his degree in hospitality management to use as owner of The Crooked Cup, a café and bakeshop that has grown from one to three shops. Armstrong opened his first store in Old Town Fort Collins, offering homemade baked goods and locally roasted coffee, among other menu items. He started a second shop at Harmony Library and, recently, a third in Cheyenne. Armstrong established a commercial kitchen as a related enterprise to supply bakery items for his coffee shops and other food outlets. He is now sharing what he’s learned with current CSU students: Armstrong is an instructor in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition, the same department where he earned his degree.

The honor recognizes efforts to build strong relationships with students and to support their holistic development.
