Rams Rise in USTFCCCA National Rankings

FORT COLLINS – For the first time since 2003, both Colorado State cross country programs reside in the top-20 of the USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll as the organization announced the week five rankings on Tuesday.

The Ram women's team advanced nine spots from No. 21 to No. 12 – one spot shy of the highest ranking in school history, which occurred in 2007. After being unranked and not receiving any votes all season, the Ram men made an even bigger splash by debuting at No. 19. It's the highest position for the men since week three of 2019.

Prompting the trending Rams was their performance at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. Out of the 36 total USTFCCCA ranked teams present at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, the men and women combined to defeat 14 of them. The women placed sixth above six teams that displayed a higher ranking, while the men crossed in front of 15 ranked or receiving-votes teams.

Nine spots represented the most upward movement in the women's top-30 with the next team being Oklahoma State, which jumped six positions from 13th to sixth. Coincidentally, the Cowgirls finished in front of the Rams this past weekend in Wisconsin as they finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

On the men's side, Air Force improved the most going from 30th to 11th. However unofficially, the Rams could be viewed as jumping the same number of spots since there was seven receiving votes teams after the top-30. Minnesota and Montana State also went from unranked and not receiving votes to inside the top-30 at 29th and 30th, respectively.

The Mountain Region continues to represent the strongest section of cross country on both sides as the men and women each have seven ranked teams within the rankings.
